What you pay...is NOT what you get...
okie...let's get 1 thing straight...going to japan is NOT as expensive as whoever might think...go ahead shoot me!
erm...and if you start comparing tokyo to thailand or taiwan...of course the latter is cheaper...DUH~
alrighty then, so far its been pics of us and scenery or voyeur shots of the places we've been..i thought it would be great to post an entry on the food we've tried...
Choc Cro at St Marc's cafe in Shibuya:
what you see in the above 3 pics are iced green tea latte and iced mocha, and we left out the iced choc.
this was simply sinful...crossaint stuffed with semi-melted chocolate bar is just godlike...
in the beginning..
in the end...it seriously doesn't even matter...
Fugetsu (風月) okonomiyaki at Odaiba...you've got to try this..
we paid about 4000 yen for 3 large ones..which translates to about 17 SGD per person..inclusive of 1 x beer and 2 x calpis..woot! and may i state that prices are
AFTER TAX...
this was our favourite..
Matsuya (松屋)..if you thought yoshinoya was good..YOU THOUGHT WRONG!
680 yen for the set meal of a large beef bowl+egg and a soup..you break and beat the egg and then you pour it over the beef bowl...raw...and it was out of this world...the soup was almost as big as the rice itself and had plenty of ingredients in it..excellent if you want a cheap, tasty and filling meal...we had it twice...680 yen = 8.70 SGD (you pay around this price at yoshinoya and trust us, the taste ain't anyway near)
and amongst the high-end streets of Ginza, we found this surprisingly cheap and friggin owning ramen..underground literally...
ABC ラメン (ain't kidding, the call themselves ABC)...we ordered the shop's top 3 favourites and understood why these were the top 3 after the 1st mouth... ramen in japan is ALL hand-made noodles and the soup are all self-created recipes that are unique in every ramen store...
prices range from 750-850 yen...or 9.60-10.80 SGD....
AFTER TAXcomplaining about expensive? think again about the prices you pay at Ajisen, or any ramen store here and the quality of food you get...rip-off shyte...
we had these at a family restaurant (like those you see in animes) off the main street near sensoji temple..
these are the usual fare you get at Sun with Moon (wheelock) or waraku (cuppage center)...and you pay about easily 17 SGD and more...
each set like the ones above costs about 1100 yen (14 SGD)..and sets comes with either sashimi or chawamushi....authentic japanese food made in japan..and how does it taste? no prizes for guessing...
blogger's note: all prices stated above are all inclusive of tax. (5% government tax
ONLY)
maybe prices aren't cheaper...but at least it's around the same and seriously, the quality of food is so much better...
you can't find bad food in japan..simply because if any shop makes bad food..they close down immediately...
as we were savouring our ramen(s), pl said this (or something like this): "i can't imagine why we're paying such prices for food like that in Singapore."
i can understand why he said that. Ajisen's ramen are machine-made and are like rubber and how much are we paying? -_-
And there is just one more thing, we have become very suspecting peeps! Yes!
Imagine this ad:
Student lunch buffet at $9.90!
is it really $9.90?
you would always suspect or assume that there would be extra charges and yes...it is always 100% true that we pay more than what we see...
why do we pay 10% service charge when the service we get is naught...and soon 2 % more....
