Hairspray

Please do not miss this movie. Again, this is a musical kind of movie just like 881. But expect more songs and less talk. In fact, 90% of the movie are songs. Unlike 881, where the songs are once sang by our God of Getai, Chen Jin Lang, songs in Hairspray are all originals. Fancy some 70's or sleek dance moves by our dear erm, negros? Seriously, they have some sick dance moves, inhuman body flexibility and vocals that can only be attained by balls-squeezing. Literally.
A dose of 70s rock and Elvis-style music is really refreshing and all of the songs, yes ALL of them are catchy.

If you liked John Travolta's Saturday Night Fever or Grease, then you will like this too. I enjoyed my 70s rock. Groovy~

Might be a bit biased but I think it's worth a 4.225 over 5. This is Rock and Roll, the 70's way.

A Second Home, A Second Life

Hi all who's already missing me! I've sorta neglected this blog ever since school started! Somehow, it has become a movie review blog?? And music review blog? Haha actually its a good idea to spread your reviews about movies and such. In fact, I just watched 881 with my cheerleading gang. It was actually very enjoyable as I appreciate musicals. It does get boring abit in the end when Little Papaya ____. She did really shave her head, very respectable and brave in my opinion.

I'll show you all my second home, Hall 10 block 51 04-991S. It's gonna be my alcove for the coming semester and next. Having your own single room really beats everything man. I've become spoilt; i'm never gonna go back to a double room if i can help it.

This is my entrance to my space. Yes Yes Yes blatant notice of my desire to throw pple. Our block just got renovated thus everything is repainted. The toilets are BRAND new! This is a BIG BIG departure from the horrid old toilets which is worse than ANY army toilet. Happily, Ah Tiongs invasions are controlled rigourously this sem, and we have few incidents of shit floating in unflushed cisterns or yellow water incidents.

This is my study table with my macbook pro and dell monitor. I had a really hard time setting up the stuff cos I demand neatness and wires hidden from sight. Pingling should know my obsession with hidden wires wahah. Also, the neatness of my table enables me to study AND play on the same table. Hah try that people. I love the way I can lie down on my bed across the room and watch porn and movies. The perks of single room. No kaypoh roomie to ze siao and banter over what music to play. I mean come on... I play Red Hot Chili Peppers you watch A Hundred Litre of Tears. Anti Climax to the Max.

Also, I've a digital photo pin up on my Dell, and a photo pin up in my notice board. This idea was taken from a good fren of mine; the wallpapering with random magazine pages with a theme. Nice eh ?

Now comes to my other region of the room, the music creation region. I drink beer and alcohol on the table, switch on the orange lamp and whip out my guitar and start playing. That is my RBX bass, stripped out of its casing in full glory. On the table are 2 bottles of ice cold Hoegaarden and a Bailey's Caramel. Thats how it goes, block 51 of Hall 10 is an alcoholic block. We have many seniors with collections of Vodka, Tequilla, a 5 litre keg of Heineken etc and we never miss out a chance to drink and cook supper.

Well, there's hall life for you. Its Saturday 3.30am and I still can hear laughter in some rooms while I am typing this. We really got our Bio clock fucking screwed upside down. Now I really have trouble sleeping anytime before 2am. That's why: A second home, a second life. Kinda sucks if you wanna stay healthy hah.

881

I enjoyed this movie thoroughly and I thought you should watch it too. Maybe if you aren't a hokkien speaking person, this might be a no-go. Much of the conversation and singing are in hokkien, and though there are subtitles, it isn't quite as enjoyable if you read the subs. Generally a comedy for the masses during this national day period and I had a good laugh through out. It was really draggy towards the end and I thought it took points off it. And I still didn't understand what the laser-emitting part between the Durian Sisters and Papaya Sisters was about.

The last time I caught a similar movie was Phantom of the Opera, which was like more than 2 years back, and the cinema was almost empty (it was gooooood, the movie). It certainly was plesant watching something different from the usual after more than 2 years but this time round, be prepared for an elderly crowd if you watch it at a cinema near the heartlands. I did, at causeway point.

I give 3.8 out of 5! This musical-movie is enjoyable and the hokkien songs are really kick-ass. This is something different and the costumes in this film are really simply out of this world. Draggy at the end, beware!

Secret.

Caught Jay's new one on Queen's Day (eh..Saturday actually). It was pure fantasy, but then again, that's what Jay's about AND who cares if its fantasy, its the movies. For a 1st shot at directing and acting, it was very good effort as the movie was very watchable and more or less, I would say its a movie that couples go to (doesnt matter if you didnt go with your partner either), and there were a few lines that were quite unexpected in my opinion. It was really funny at certain parts as well. If you're a fan of nan quan ma ma, expect them to play memorable supporting role.

And the piano battle between Jay and Yu Hao.... Sick.

3.2 out of 5. Its seriously watchable and if you like a fantasy love story, this would be one for you.

Author's note: Everyone got secrets they can't tell....shhhhh! I had a great time, thanks!
